March Edition 2019

Sparkle & Colour

How can we improve and enhance our neighbourhood?

Have you got some ideas?

Johnstown Tidy Towns will be putting together their competition entry but do you have any suggestions? Will you also volunteer to help implement any new ideas.

Simply send them a message, contact details further below.

Some of the things being considered or completed.

The Big Plant

The former petrol station 'Big Dig' and planting project was put on hold last summer due to drought and the incredibly 'rock' hard soil.

Work has recently resumed to prepare the soil for planting and they'll make a call for volunteers to come and plant (no digging they promise) in April.

Johnstown Roundabout

The winter lighting feature was very subtle but noticeable when you're up close but it will soon be removed as the evenings brighten earlier.

Would the community support a more elaborate and brighter lighting display for next winter, perhaps from Halloween to St Patrick's Day?

Above is a roundabout in Ratoath taken from Google Maps. Note it's size and design compared to ours which allows larger vehicles to pass bye.

The large number of trucks following Metges Road are destroying both the Johnstown roundabout edge and now pot holes are appearing in the road.

A good clean is needed and a mix of seasonal and perennial perimeter planting would hugely improve and enhance it.

School & Dunville Roundabout

This is an opportunity to make something of a feature that 1000's pass daily.

JTT have some ideas to help the bees that they'll be putting to the schools, local developer and local residents in the hope they'll participate in making something good happen.

St Martha's Bridge

Flower baskets are again planned for April to October and if there's sponsorship they hope to double the number of display boxes to stretch the entire length of the bridge railings.

Historic Bridge

Only 8 of the 11 arches of Kilcarn Bridge spanning the Boyne River are from the original construction sometime in the later part of the 1500s. Closed to vehicles in the late 70's, closed for a few years after the storm damage in 2014, it is now only open to pedestrians.

We think it's ignored and it could be something special marking the entry to Navan. It's very dark especially in winter and wonder if there's opportunity for it to be lit as a feature ?

River Walk

The river walk at the Ramparts and further east at BroadBoyne Bridge are wonderful all year round thanks largely to the work of the volunteers at the Ramparts.

It is a great family experience and we wonder if a riverside path could be created to either extend the fantastic Ramparts walk or Kilcarn Bridge and alongside the IDA land?

What can you suggest?
