Neighbourhood ALARM

Recent reports via Social Media of burglaries and vehicles, cyclists & people on foot behaving suspiciously in the local area quite rightly raises alarm bells and spreads concern.

We'd like to see more Neighbourhood Watch Schemes operating to cover the entire Navan Area and beyond.

NW groups tend to use text messaging or private chat groups to cascade verified information instantly to those immediately affected.

The best 'eyes & ears' on our streets are Residents who will report suspicious activity to the Garda & then to NW Groups.

Contact your Residents Group, join their Neighbourhood Watch Scheme and if there isn't an existing group consider forming one.

Playground or Not

10am, Monday July 17th could be the first opportunity for the Navan Councillors to discuss the proposed playground at the entrance to the Johnstown School Campus.

A healthy discussion has been raised by residents on the NSCU Facebook Page and IF the planning proposal is rejected then the Kentstown Road junction appears to be an alternative location.

An Event Invitation to attend the Council Meeting has been posted by the group who are opposed to the Johnstown Wood Playground.

NOTE: The Council Meeting is open to the Public but space is limited and we suspect that you will need to notify the Council in advance of your planned attendance.

Metges Road Gym

It really is looking so much better after a lick of paint and we're delighted that is finally has a tenant. We'll have to wait until July for it's opening as the new Feel Fit Gym.

Pilates Studio Opens

Congratulations to Haven Studios who have opened their new Pilates Studio and provide another facility in Old Johnstown Village.

Bookings are being taken via their website.

Saving Trees

The developer Glenveagh Homes of the Cois Glaisin Estate recently met with local residents and Cllr Alan Lawes to provide assurances that trees and shrubs were only being removed where they prevent the safe construction of the remaining homes.

This should come as a relief to homeowners in Spire View who feared a temporary fence erected around some of the local trees marked their removal.

More illegal dumping

It staggers belief that local people might be the source of illegal dumping. If you see discover household waste please report it to the Council.

Do not tamper with the evidence since it will allow the Council to go through the bags to see if there's a name or address to prosecute the owner.

Big Belly Bins

#LoveNavan reported that the Town Centre gained some new street furniture and anything which prevents the spread of litter is a good thing.

Will they be well used by the weekend revellers?

It was previously suggested that Johnstown Village would get these too.

Slane Rocked

Nothing Else Mattered on Sat 8th with Metallica playing for over 2 hours.

Check out Navan in the clip's opening scenes.

HOWEVER the ban on bringing any food or drinks into the grounds made 75,000 visitors 100% relient on the choices made by the event organisers.

They did not choose well.

At events like this, with annual attendance in the millions worldwide, they could easily make a significant difference.

BAN SINGLE USE PLASTICS AT ALL PUBLIC EVENTS

Road Changes

Last year we saw work to add to the Navan 'New Bridge' cause local summer traffic disruption but this year we'll see major traffic flow changes starting with Railway Street.
