RIP Michael Leddy

The Johnstown Community has been in shock at the sudden passing of Michael Leddy, 15, after an accident turned to tragedy whilst on holidays in Lanzarote.

A popular boy around Johnstown, a Secondary student in Navan, a talented player both at Johnstown FC and Navan O'Mahonys GAA Club the news of his passing has impacted hard on hundreds of young people and their families.


It is a credit to the Youths, and the entire Community has a new found sense of pride, in how they organised and conducted themselves in these difficult times.

Mickey's friends organised a balloon release ceremony to pay their respects and to take comfort and support from each other in their moment of grief. Hundreds gathered in Johnstown People's Park on Thursday evening with many visibly shaken and likely experiencing their first ever loss of a friend.

The touching words and description written by Gavan Becton, in the Meath Chronicle article, beautifully expressed the emotional evening.

" To cheers, then free-flowing tears, then silence and hugs, hundreds of balloons, in red, in white and in blue - the colours of Johnstown FC and Navan O'Mahony's - rose gently into the air above the People's Park. "


Book of Condolences

Was made available at Smiths SuperValu in the Johnstown Shopping Centre.

Match Honour

A minute silence hosted by Johnstown Football Club had many wearing his Club's colours the following evening.

Mickey will be honoured by the FAI and the Republic of Ireland before the Sept 5th EURO 2020 qualifier against Switzerland at the Aviva Stadium.

Biggest Fan

As a big United fan his friends and family are asking all fans at Old Trafford to join in a minute's applause on the 15th minute for the club's first game of the season against Chelsea on Sunday.

The image of a United shirt with his name on it and the hashtag #minute4mikey is being shared to try and make as many fans aware as possible.

Fundraiser

Johnstown Football Club and Navan O'Mahonys GAA have joined together to launch a GoFundMe page to support the family.

Funeral Arrangements

Reposing at his home in Beaufort Place (Eircode C15FE4A) on Sunday from 2pm to 7pm & on Monday from 2pm to 6pm.

House strictly private at all other times please.


Funeral Mass on Tuesday at 12 noon in St. Mary's Church, Navan.

Burial afterwards in St. Mary's cemetery, Navan.
