Get Active Locally

Johnstown has not had any new buildings for community facilities but now we do now have more venues for exercise than ever before. We need to support them if they are to thrive.

Here we promote those Clubs and Venues which are within walking distance as a stepping stone to completing a Navan Area Map to enhance our Sports Listing with over a hundred groups.

Here's an extract of our forthcoming Navan Sporting Facilities and Clubs Mapping just highlighting those local to Johnstown Venues.

With over 100 activities already processed the Navan Mapping will be published shortly.

If there's something missing let us know.

INDOOR

Albeit across the River Boyne the Navan RFC clubhouse hosts Irish Kenpo Karate Club and the Encore Stage School.

After their epic struggle to find a local base Johnstown ABC Boxing Club was the first to open a new venue in March 2017

St Stephen's National School

Opened a dedicated Studio in July 2019 within Johnstown Village.

July 2019 the new Navan Gym occupied part of the Metges Rd building.

On August 4th 2019 CrossFit Meath opened their second Navan venue on the Kentstown Rd.

OUTSIDE

Adjacent to the Navan Rugby Club are 5 all weather floodlit tennis courts.

Together with indoor activities within St Stephen's we hope to have their support to host introduction outdoor activities to encourage our youth to participate in local groups.

Regular walkers are often seen following the pavements and a few more have been exploring the Athlumney Riverside Walk. Every January sees Operation Transformation Groups form.

A new running group has formed meeting at the Johnstown People's Park every Friday 7:30pm.

Johnstown People's Park

Johnstown tidy towns tested the interest by mowing a football pitch within the JPP. It doesn't look like the basketball hoops will ever go back up, after last year's accident, but if given some line markings the tarmac has potential for a variety of games.

Our Hopes

All these venues and groups need local support to thrive..

What's still evidently missing is a the social spaces for community groups and of course a children's playground.
