Athlumney Centre Changes

A planning proposal to demolish the Athlumney Centre and build Apartments has been lodged and are available for viewing at Buvinda House Planning Department.

Ref NA191200 is a comprehensive submission which should have been made available for online viewing.

UPDATED 10/10/2019

We have made further enquiries at the Planning Dept and we now Don't expect the planning application files to be accessible online before the deadline for commentary expires.

To view the paper submission you'll need to visit the Planning Dept, Buvinda House in person between 10am -1pm or 2pm-4pm.

Containing 42 apartments in a variety of 2 and 3 bed designs it will certainly attract buyers but will it attract the same opposition as the Metges Rd scheme?

We visited to review the submission but copyright prevents us illustrating the proposal however we saw 3 obvious issues that the Community might debate:

Our interpretation of the 2 blocks layout

1. Appearance

It's going to be a personal opinion whether you like the modern design and 'kerb appeal' of the two 4 storey buildings. Any proposal would find it difficult to slot in between the distinctly different designs of the 3 storey Kentstown Road apartments (North), Dunville Estate houses (East) and the 3 storey Cluain Na Boinne Estate houses (South).

The two 4 storey blocks don't appear to overlook or overshadow any neighbours but they will transform the appearance of the area.

2. Traffic

Metges Road is already busy in rush hour and with 72 car spaces there'll be a slight increase. The cycle and pedestrian access via Dunville Estate will provide an alternative route for students to go to schools in Johnstown and for those heading to Navan from Dunville.

3. There's no retail / community space

We wonder if the Johnstown ABC Boxing Club, Mario's takeaway and the Dragon Inn will be able to relocate?

Anyone wishing to make formal written observations, comments or objections must do so to Meath County Council Planning Department by

16th October 2019.
