Cllr Charity Vote 2021 Results

Earlier in May the Navan public voted online to help County Councillor Alan Lawes identify 5 Registered Charities serving the Navan Community to receive shares in his €15,000 Council Discretionary 2021 Fund.

Reaching +10,000 local people online with over 1,000 engaging in the process the following groups will now receive the one-off funding of €3,000 each,

1st Place with 22% of the Vote

St Mary's Special School, Johnstown

"St. Mary’s specialises in meeting the educational needs of students between the ages of four and eighteen years with Moderate Learning Disabilities; Autism; Challenging Behaviour and Severe to Profound Learning Disabilities. Curriculum and organisational content is child centred and designed to accommodate individual learning styles so that all students may experience success.

The staff at St. Mary’s is committed to creating a structured, trusting and caring environment which enables dynamic teaching and learning experiences. Post primary students are offered vocational training in practical subjects as well as independent life skills. "

2nd Place with 14% of the Vote

Inner City Helping Homeless, Meath Branch

" Inner City Helping Homeless was founded in November 2013 as a result of the increased number of people sleeping rough around Dublin City."

In 2019 their work has expanded to support County Meath.

3rd Place with 8% of the Vote

Core Ireland, Meath

" We are a community based, volunteer-led initiative situated in Navan, County Meath, Ireland. We act as a hub that connects with and provides services for the community, local charities and worthwhile causes.

We do this by focusing on individual projects that will help restore a real sense of community bringing people and organisations together to address issues in areas such as mental health, community development, poverty and social exclusions.

Core is evolving and growing! Be involved and help us to help others. As a two-way system, CORE is as much for the volunteer as for the person who is receiving the help."

4th Place with 7% of the Vote

Order of Malta Ireland - Ambulance Corps - Navan Unit

" Founded in 1938, Order of Malta Ireland is a voluntary organisation serving communities and reaching out to the most vulnerable and disadvantaged.

Celebrating over 75 years in Ireland, the Order of Malta have a dedicated group of over 4,000 volunteers in our all Ireland Ambulance Corps including a youth section known as The Cadets serving their local community and saving lives.

We co-ordinate a variety of voluntary, community activities across the whole island of Ireland and fund raise to grow our Ambulance Corps and to support vulnerable groups like the elderly and people with intellectual disabilities. We also support our International organisation to deliver humanitarian aid and medical services. "

5th Place with 5% of the Vote

Involve Youth Project Meath, Unity Group

" Involve Youth Project Meath is a Traveller specific Youth Project. We provide fun programmes and activities for young people aged 8-18 years of age

A youth service based in Navan Co. Meath that works closely with the Traveller Community. We aim to provide culturally appropriate programmes and encourage Youth participation. We are led by young people for young people"

The intention is for at least 15 local groups to each benefit from Cllr Alan Lawes' Discretionary Fund over his 5-year term.

The Public decides who benefits.
