July News in Brief

Metges Rd Apartments

The 4th July signalled yet another planning proposal for Metges Rd Apartments. We fully expected this since it's land zoned for mixed development but this application comes with a twist. Previous applications have been made to Meath County Council Planning Dept but this one has gone straight to the highest decision maker, An Bord Pleanala.

After numerous unsuccessful past applications it's understandable why the developer is taking this route, click the link to see what has been proposed.

Playground Debate

A healthy discussion has been raised yet again by residents on the NSCU Facebook Page after a meeting of those objecting gathered at Taylors on July 2nd.

10am, Monday July 17th Navan Councillors meet to discuss the proposed playground at the entrance to the Johnstown School Campus.

The Council Meeting is open to the Public but space is limited and we suspect that you will need to notify the Council in advance of your planned attendance.

Metges Road Gym

We're delighted with the improvements made to the building's exterior and look forward to seeing inside.

A pre viewing on Sat 10am - 1pm, followed by official start on Monday 8th July.

Keep an eye on their Facebook page for opening details for class schedules.

Judging Johnstown

Tidy Towns Judges will be visiting the area in over the coming months and the amount of litter being needlessly dropped shouldn't be happening.

In the excitement some students decided to share & leave their school work with the Johnstown Wood Estate but they forgot that their names were still on their work.

Broken glass on grass lawns is going to cause an accident unless we get use to the idea of picking up litter rather than ignoring it.

Please take your litter home and bin it properly to help keep Johnstown Clean.

New Feature

Have you ever found yourself stuck for somewhere new in or close to County Meath to visit with the kids, with visitors or just to see more of our neighbourhood?

Recycling Offer

We think this might encourage a few to do more waste recycling at the Navan, Kells and Trim Recycling Centres.

Ask staff to stamp your card to gain a free visit with every full card.

Navan Changes

Last year we saw work to add to the Navan 'New Bridge' cause local summer traffic disruption but this year we'll see major traffic flow changes starting with Railway Street closure whilst it's converted and made 2 way.

To encourage customers the town has implemented half price parking in most (not all) areas.

The roads at the Firestation and now at Railway Street will cause some disruption.

Neighbourhood Watch

Local Groups are still on high alert after a few previous weeks of suspicious activity and burglaries.

Bicycles, Lawn Mowers,Toys left in the front garden are all popular in summer months and ALL need securing.

Perhaps you need to ensure you're part of your estate NW Group since they use instant messaging for fast & direct communication.

'Pre Loved' clothing

'Pre Loved' clothing can have a second chance.

Don't leave bags out for Doorstep Charity Collections UNLESS you're 100% sure they're legitimate. Check the register first

The advertisement is bogus and there are better alternatives:

Navan has several charity shops such as the NCBI Charity Shop Navan if clothes are in resale condition.

They can be donated too help the homeless via Cllr Alan Lawes.

There are a few clothes banks around Navan and we've mapped their locations

Most schools have uniform collections/resale days

Noisy Grass Cutting

Whilst the fields in the IDA aren't built upon they can be used for cultivating grass. However within an urban residential area it's not normally disturbing anyone. However in June it was cut continuously all through a Saturday night disturbing families not just in the Bailis Village Apartments.

The question raised, and put to Meath County Council by Cllr Lawes, is whether the IDA is farming land or business development land?

If it's not a farm then noise restrictions should apply and this should never be repeated at night.

Border Patrol

The eyes of residents in both the Boyne and Spireview Estates were fixed firmly on ensuring that an 8.5 foot wall is built without pedestrian connections on their border with the new Cois Glaisin development.

Cllr Lawes met with concerned residents Thursday 27th June to unite in confirming their requirements to the developer.

It wasn't too long ago that a Council proposal to open boundary walls for pedestrian & cycle routes between Athlumney Wood, Johnstown Wood and Bailis Downs got a similar reaction.

Meadow in JPP

The Johnstown People's Park looked different for a white during a contract transition and temporarily it became more like a meadow with flowers appearing in places not seen before.

We have to admit that we really liked the new temporary look and posed the question that if it's not used as a sports pitch and doesn't require short grass for any practical reason then can they give up an area to continue to grow long?

Managed long grass and flowers is good for the environment and could cost less to maintain. Blackwater Park is a very good example of this so make a visit and see for yourselves.

Fundraiser Event

Fundraiser for Aideen

We met Aideen when we were promoting a fundraiser for the LauraLynn Hospice . Now Aideen needs a new bed so come along for a fun evening to support her special needs.

"There will be a quiz on the night with spot prizes and a raffle with prizes including yearly memberships to the new Feelfit Gym and much more.

A table will cost you €20 for 4 people and there will be music after.

Help support this great cause and maybe win a prize too.

Hope to see you there."
