" Some of my Navan policies

Johnstown Community Facilities Required

Johnstown needs a playground, a community facility, more sporting facilities and pitches. Retrofitting these into an existing housing community is not an easy task but it needs to be done. More houses should not be provided until these community facilities are put in place.

Get the cars moving - a traffic management plan for Navan

Navan badly needs an outer orbital route. Trim has one, Kells has one, Navan’s relief road runs through the town centre – not a lot of relief there! A significant amount of through traffic increases congestion within the town. A link needs to be made from the Trim road to the motorway taking traffic away from already busy routes. This link road then needs to the Commons Road and on to the Kells road. Plans are advancing for a new distributor road which should relieve some of the congestion at the Round O "

"Dear Johnstown Residents,

Some of you I may already have met on the doorstep over the last number of years, as I called into people's homes around Johnstown. Others I might meet over the coming weeks as I do my best to call into residents during this general election campaign.

However, in happily following the call of Johnstown Tidy Towns to keep Johnstown Poster Free I would like to share with you something about myself and what I believe in.

I was raised and educated in Summerhill and Trim, where I now live with my wife and three young children. With both parents hailing from Westmeath, I am a secondary school teacher in St Patrick’s Classical School in Navan and a part-time author. I was elected to Meath County Council in May 2019, and now serve as Vice-Chair of Trim Municipal District.

I have an MSc in Sustainable Development and worked overseas in West Africa with Trócaire for several years. Through my voluntary work with Trim Family Resource Centre, Enfield Development Group, Trim Athletics Club, Meath Comhairle na nÓg and Meath’s Together for Yes campaign, the strength of our community is a source of pride to me.

I am running for election to the Dáil as I strongly feel our country needs real change for the future, and I know I can help deliver that change. We have a government in place which has allowed the housing and homelessness crisis to spiral out of control over the last decade. Our health system is in need of serious reform as laid out under the Sláintecare model.

The Social Democrats believe that no matter where you live in Ireland, your age or occupation, you are entitled to the same level of care and support from our public services.

Ireland has always had compassion for others at the centre of who we are, but this hasn’t always been reflected in our political decisions, many of which have prioritised economic gain over the well-being of our people.

I believe we should put compassion at the heart of our decisions about Ireland’s future. If elected to the Dáil, I will elevate the voices of our communities to a national level and work hard to bring about change.

My priorities:

- High quality and accountable public services that ensure a decent standard of living for all

- Introduce a right to flexible work – in order to give families more time to care for their children, older people, family members with disabilities and themselves.

- Deadlines not lip service on Sláintecare implementation

- Delivery of social and affordable housing to buy and rent

- Increased provision of public transport and cycling provision

- Honest and compassionate politics – and the courage to do what’s right for everyone

- Establish an Independent Anti-Corruption Agency

- Climate change leadership that doesn’t harm low income families

- Introduction of a ‘save as you pay’ frontloaded home insulation scheme

- Economic development that improves people's quality of life, makes society fairer and is sustainable

Finally, I have already heard many times on the doorstep the desire for change and I believe myself and the Social Democrats offer that change. If you trust me with your 1st preference vote or highest available on March 8th I hope I will be able to repay that trust.

Don't hesitate to get in touch if you want to raise an issue or concern with me.

Best,

Ronan "
