We're frustrated with Social Media providing 'News' since they decide WHAT we see, WHEN we see it, and WHO gets to see it.

The article, published 18th Feb, states that Navan hospital emergency department does not provide stroke thrombolysis and that Ambulances have now been directed to take patients to Dublin's Mater Hospital where there are higher volumes of stroke treatment.

This is concerning given the urgent need for treatment in the event of a stroke.

Save Navan Hospital is hosting a Public Meeting in the Newgrange Hotel, Navan on Monday the 24th at 8pm.

Safety Concerns

Metges Road is very busy in peak hours and the existing pedestrian crossing is on a bend, has no street signage and is unlit.

Cllr Alan Lawes has formally written to Meach County Council regarding the public's concern for pedestrian safety on Metges Road.

"To whom it may concern,

As you know parents in Johnstown have been demanding a pedestrian crossing for a very long time now. While there is one being constructed near the Cos Glaisin estate and that is welcome, the real danger to children is further up the road close to the Bus stops and the park. Parents are very fearful that a child will be seriously injured or killed in that area. I know Councillors were told at a Navan Municipal meeting recently that sourcing an electrical connection was the problem.

The road gets busier by the week now. With ever increasing traffic particularly heavy traffic, with lots of articulated trucks and construction traffic adding to a road that is already congested to the maximum with commuters. Numerous parents have complained to me and many others have commented negatively about the Council online. There is a level of frustration building up in Johnstown that I haven't witnessed before. Its a lot to do with the over development of the area without the infrastructure and the facilities to go with it.

The pedestrian crossing is just another example. Hundreds of houses and now apartments are given planning permission in super fast time and yet it takes years to get a simple pedestrian crossing to keep our local children safe.

Whatever the hold up, can we get a move on and "URGENTLY" construct the second pedestrian crossing along Metges Road and prevent the accident that's waiting to happen.

Kind Regards,

Cllr Alan Lawes"

New Home

We've rebuilt our Magazine to overcome recent Social Media restrictions regarding posting website page links.

We've made a few changes, a few improvements and there's more to do.

Hosting 35 Editions so far with over a dozen Local Guides means that we are too big to be hosted as a single Free website. To avoid any hosting fees we linked 3 free sites together but Facebook doesn't like this arrangement. They would prefer users to stay within their controlled and profitable App ......we don't want to do that.

Therefore we've reorganised pages so that we can now post direct page links again.......to many pages but not all!!!

To stop Social Media from meddling and interfering again why not subscribe to our single monthly email notification.

Road Works

Temporary Traffic lights with a single traffic lane, is currently in place as part of the Farganstown Access Road creation at the junction of the Kentstown and Metges Roads.

Luckily it's currently the Mid Term school break when traffic is at reasonably low levels. At present there is no information on the duration of this stage but we will endeavour to seek further information.

The spray markings on the floor suggest that works are concentrating on the reconfiguration of services such as Gas, Water, Telecom and Electrics.

Navan Radio?

This could be a great new feature but is it going to happen?

The Facebook Page has been going since Nov 2015 but still no Community Radio Station, and very few postings.

We saw a recent flicker of life and thought we'd give them a 'shout out' to see if things can move along. Contact details are on their Page.

Navan Community Radio

Is there room for a local station? We'll certainly keep our fingers crossed and wish them luck. A station could certainly have community engagement and involve schools and local groups.

Not specifically Navan but we already have LMFM: The Voice of the NorthEast.

Province 5 Television, formerly Navan Community Television, once provided a community access television station via the Chorus platform. Transmissions ceased on in April 2016 after nearly 25 years of programming.

Meath Daily TV continue to provide interesting community video articles and focus lately on local sports.

Locally in print we have the Meath Chronicle and the Meath Herald for community news and there is a vast array of Social Media Sites.

Doggy Trouble

It is disgusting what we've seen for ourselves helping Johnstown Tidy Towns on Clean Up days.

It's clear that some dogs are not being treated as a member of the family by a few who think it's ok to leave their pet's poo in public places for you, your children, or your pets to discover.

'Name and Shame' might find its place on Social Media so be very careful it's not your pet and your face being exposed for littering and for being anti social.
