December News
Daily Local News in brief, and suggestions of what to do locally.
First and Last Snow of the Year
A flurry of snow covers the ground this morning and we're sure it'll raise the spirits of everyone's inner child.
Remember the Big Snow of 2018?
Things to do within 5km
Recent travel restrictions mean that you need to know your 5km boundary. In October we highlighted a dozen things to see and do within 5km of Johnstown.
Level 5
It's not unexpected that we now return to tougher Level 5 restrictions.
Take a Stroll
Is it time to clear your head and get some fresh air?
Local resident Rafal Wojcicki photography captured some scenes along the River Boyne Ramparts Walk.
Merry Christmas
Anticipation of Santa's arrival is causing excitement.
Merry Christmas Everyone.
A Wonderful Gesture
"A big thank you to the business who provided these Super gift boxes with both goodies and practical items for Navans rough sleepers.
And they didn't want their name mentioned but I think our homeless will be delighted and will find them of great valu."
Christmas CleanUp
This full bag of litter was collected from Bothar Sion by Johnstown Tidy Towns on Christmas Eve.
If they didn't pick up the litter it would easily have found its way into the River Boyne.
Don't Drop Litter

If you can support the band visit their gofundme Page
A wonderful trail is closer than you thought.

Ribbon Tree
The Rotary Club of Navan have their annual Christmas Tree of Remembrance in the Johnstown Shopping Centre.
This year you can also donate online http://navanrotaryclub.org/ and the proceeds will help many local groups such as The Alzheimer’s Society, St Mary's Special School, Women’s Refuge, Autism, St Vincent de Paul, Tabor House and more.
Feed them and they'll enliven your garden.
Fundraising Appeals
We've added a new section to our What's On Page to include 'very' local appeals for support from our Community.
See what you can do to help Fundraising Appeals.
Solstice Christmas Star
On Monday 21st the planets Jupiter and Saturn are due to make a spectacular sight as they appear together as one to shine brightly like a star in the night sky.
It's worth looking low in the South West sky just after sunset to catch a glimpse since they've not appeared like this for 100s of years.
Making Plans
We all know that our Community needs more facilities so when a popular club is threatened with imminent homelessness we need the community to rally to support it.
One year ago the Athlumney Centre was approved for demolition to construct 42 Apartments which will leave Johnstown ABC Boxing Club without a home. It's not the first time that their club has been forced to relocate and in keeping with their ethos they're not going down without a fight.
A fund raiser has started with the aim of creating a new 'Forever Home'. We hope you'll give what you can to ensure that Johnstown retains its clubs and facilities and does not take a step backwards.
We ask that you take a look and offer your support.
Shine Your Light
On the eve of the winter solstice, Sunday 20th, RTÉ in association with the Creative Ireland Programme will shine illuminations on landmarks across the country.
From 8.30pm on RTÉ http://www.rte.ie/player and then from 9pm we're encouraged to shine our own lights in solidarity during these unprecedented times and to mark important milestones for the nation.

Since we can't go to the local Panto this Christmas we're delighted to see it's coming to everyone TONIGHT !!!.
Welcome to Pantoland - The Movie has been made locally during lockdown and we're looking forward to getting into the Christmas Spirit and shouting at the tv 'He's Behind You' as we tune in this evening at 8pm via YouTube https://youtu.be/cVfLpEds3aw
Hosted by Patrick Fox, Ultan O'Cinnéide and Keith Russell here's their show description from the YouTube channel:
OH YES IT IS! A Panto like none other! A Panto MOVIE boys and girls!
The people of Pantoland always live Happily Ever After. Sure, the Baddies like to cause a little trouble, but the goodies always find a way to win the day and spoil their parties. But that’s until a new Baddie comes to town and tries to take over as ruler of all Pantoland. How will the goodies find their way to saving the land this time?
