Water Too Cold to Swim
A sixteen year old Navan resident is being praised for rescuing 2 children (11 and 12yr) from the River Boyne close to Swynnerton Lodge. The local swimmers who got into difficulty were brought to Drogheda hospital for observation.
The advice is not to swim in the river where there are hazards beneath surface and the cold water will not only produce a shock but that it will also lower your core temperature creating muscle fatigue.
Conkers
We're all familiar with these but do you know they could be wiped out within a generation?
From the generosity of a local family Johnstown Tidy Towns have been given the opportunity to make a difference.
Find out why conkers are at risk.

Battery Drain
We initially thought it might just be our mobile phone on the blink and eating through the battery extremely quickly. You're not alone if it's happening to yours too.
Today's NewsTalk article references the Covid App as being the potential cause so keep a lookout for any App updates.
BE AWARE - DON'T delete the Covid App since it could erase your movement history - the part which makes contact tracing possible!

Bringing Sunshine
The row of sunflowers planted by Johnstown Tidy Towns and Athlumney Hall Residents along Metges Road are about to come into flower.
By the end of the month we hope to see them brighten our neighbourhood and lead to future sunflower displays.
Face Covering Reminder
ALL customers visiting a Meath County Council building are requested to wear face coverings.
It will be MANDATORY from Monday August 10th so perhaps invest in several spare face coverings now.
Disappointed
If you notice a blue spray line along the local pavements you'll see that today the Council have been out spraying weed killer.
We think there's a better way to manage our environment without resorting to chemical weapons.
Catch the Sea Breeze.
We highly recommend a visit to the local beaches anytime the weather is reasonably good.
A quick trip to enjoy the sun and breeze at Mornington Bay had us making footprints in the soft sand whilst seeking out washed up jellyfish.
Microchip Your Pets
In light of recent media reports of dogs being stolen coupled with today's media report that 10 dogs have been recovered by Drug Enforcement Officers in County Limerick we strongly advise you to properly register your dog and have them microchipped.
Pub reopening Delayed Again
The latest Government decision means our local pubs will not be opening until AT LEAST August 31st unless they are serving "substantial meals".
A national newspaper suggests that they may not reopen this year.

The wearing of face coverings to the mouth and nose will be mandatory in all shops and shopping centres from August 10th.

True to their promise Smiths SuperValu removed the craters from the Johnstown Shopping Centre even though it wasn't their problem to fix.
School Plans?
" Will they actually re-open and will my children be safe? "
Two questions on every parents mind as we head towards the end of summer break.
We expect each School to communicate directly with parents in the coming weeks to reveal how they intend to create a safe yet functioning school facility.
In the meantime ensure you have connected online with the school and in our Guide you can find online links to all the neighbourhood schools.
Don't forget their school uniforms and equipment.
