Celebrity boxing match set to ignite the ring in July
the Lehlohonolo Ledwaba Memorial Celebrity Boxing Event takes centre stage on July 26 at Emperors Palace, Kempton Park

The glitz and glam of South African entertainment will collide with the grit and intensity of boxing when the Lehlohonolo Ledwaba Memorial Celebrity Boxing Event takes centre stage on July 26 at Emperors Palace, Kempton Park.
TLB Boxing Promotions hosted the official press conference for the much-anticipated event on Tuesday at the Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg. The event is not just about punches and showmanship; it's a tribute to the late boxing legend Lehlohonolo Ledwaba, whose impact on the sport continues to inspire athletes and fans alike.
In attendance at the media briefing were some of the biggest names from entertainment and sports, including legendary boxer Cassius Baloyi, Siphiwe “Picat” Sibeko from iconic kwaito group Alaska and celebrity boxing contenders NaakMusiQ, Phumlani Njilo and Chad Da Don. Notably absent was actor Abdul Khoza, who could not attend due to other commitments.
Joyce Kungwane, the force behind TLB Boxing Promotions and the brainchild behind previous headline-grabbing celebrity bouts such as Cassper Nyovest vs NaakMusiQ and Cassper vs Priddy Ugly, emphasised the broader significance of the event.
“This year’s event not only celebrates the legacy of Ledwaba but also continues to bridge sport, entertainment and community upliftment,” said Kungwane. “The match is a tribute to the late Lehlohonolo Ledwaba for his contribution to the sport and its stakeholders. We’re excited about this upcoming boxing match and what it represents.”
Phumlani Njilo, known for his larger-than-life presence both in media and business circles, revealed how the fight came together.
“I was happy when Joyce called me. She asked if I’d be willing to fight NaakMusiQ and what my purse would be. I gave her a number, she agreed, and I signed the contract,” he said. “NaakMusiQ is the only credible celebrity exhibition fighter I think makes sense for me to fight right now. I’m looking forward to this.”
NaakMusiQ, who has previously stepped into the ring in a high-profile bout against Cassper Nyovest, admitted he was underprepared last time but is returning with renewed focus and dedication.
“People could see I was a bit unfit in the Cassper fight because it was my first time in the ring. Now, I understand the sport better. I have more time to train, and I’m going to give you guys the best fight. Not taking anything away from my opponent — but I’ll be ready to throw those punches,” Naak promised with confidence.
The match is already generating major buzz on social media, with fans of both music and boxing eagerly anticipating what could be one of the most entertaining showdowns of the year. Whether you're a boxing purist or just in it for the celebrity drama, July 26 is shaping up to be a night to remember.
