Afrotainment's newest recruit Captain is a trailblazing force in the gqom scene.
Captain, whose real name is Siphamandla Mathebula, is set to ignite dance floors with the song Cinderella, which will drop on Friday on all digital platforms.
Captain hails from Ladysmith but is based in KwaMakhutha, south of Durban.
Speaking to TshisaLIVE, Captain said this hard-hitting, bass-heavy song takes gqom to new heights.
“The track reimagines the Cinderella story through the powerful and exciting lens of gqom, rolling percussion with anthemic vocal chops and an infectious rhythm. Cinderella's inspiration is from a beautiful woman in a studio. The way she was beautiful no-one knew what to say to her, even her name and surname no-one knew, but then, me being creative, out of the blue I was like Nangu UCinderella Ngaphans kwe Umbrella [Here's Cinderella that side of an umbrella],” he said.
“I bring a unique vision to the track, capturing the struggle, transformation and ultimate triumph being an underdog. On the song I featured Danger [Big Nuz] and Campmasters. Already it is taking the dance floor [by storm] wherever I perform. Being excited is an understatement.”
Afrotainment's Mthokozisi Khathi, aka DJ Tira, said Captain has shown hunger for making a breakthrough in the music industry. “Hence I gave him a chance to see what magic can we create when we are a united force. The song is pure gqom and a definition that the genre is still alive, not going anywhere.”
