Navan Athletics

Based at Claremont Stadium the Navan Athletics Club has been promoting track and field sports for several years. The club has grown to over 200 members and it encourages people of all ages to be active and participate.

Open since 1981 the stadium boasts an Olympic standard 8 lane 400m tartan athletics track and field stadium with a multi activity sports hall. We asked a Katie Gaughan, a local Resident of Athlumney Wood and Coach at Navan Athletics, for some more information:

How are you involved?

"I've been coaching for about a year now. I got involved as I have two children aged 5 & 6 in the 'Little Athletics' group. It's a fun way for children to exercise."

When is it on?

Events coming up.

Together with several competitions one of the highlight events of the year was the Robbie Byrne Memorial 5k Road Race on Dec 27th. The race is a fundraising event to support the costs of maintaining the Stadium and all members get involved in making the day a fun event with parents and athletes taking part.

Several children from our Community have attended and we asked for some of their comments:

"All three of my children were involved last year in the Little Athletics group and they really enjoyed it. One hour every Tuesday evening was great activity and exercise."

"When the winter weather was poor it was great to use the indoor hall which had areas laid out as assault courses of hoops, cones, tunnels, bunny hops and all the children enjoyed the races. Then in the warmer Spring weather they went outdoors to use the track for races and relays."
